The City Of Redding, Interpreting Film Analysis Of The...
Culture risen from high crime rates, Redding, California is persistent in looking for ways to cultivate a new attitude (Hess). During the summer of 2016, an independent film company based in the Los Angeles area, Archetype Pictures, moved their crew up to Northern California in order to give Redding a taste of artisanal life. Here, people from the community were brought in as producers, actors, and crew to help create science-fiction film, Interpreters. As a member of the City of Redding, as well as a film student in the surround area looking for experience, I was hired onto the crew as the art director. Included in this document will be photographic examples of the work, along with the following description of my personal responsibilitiesâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦This meant understanding the characters themselves, finding photos of the actors to print out and put on refrigerators, and even painting on canvas, for a character who was an artist. Going through this process require d taking photos of all the sets before and after being dressed, as many locations were shot in places of work or homes donated by the Redding community for the time being. Photos provided continuity for locations we had to shoot at again on a later date, as well as ensuring everything was back in its place for those who shared their homes and businesses with Archetype Pictures. Though these were the main tasks, the job aided in my understanding of working on a real film set in various ways, some expected and others less so. The beginnings of the art director job entailed the fairly obvious step for filmmakers just starting up: networking. Through family members and mutual friends, I was able to get in touch with one of the producers of the film who spoke with me about what experiences Iââ¬â¢d had with film already, the available job, and the duties along with it. From there, I spoke with the director, read the script, and researched the film, respective genres, and previous works by Archetype Pictures to understand the spirit and behind the scenes of the film.
